Canvas attached to a stretcher loom to lay flat.
A second loom holds the new support with adhesive.
The 2 looms are stacked aligning the old and new canvases.
With positioning marked, old canvas is coated with adhesive.
Looms are again stacked in position.
If needed, a cushioning layer can be inserted to protect impasto.
The looms are sealed in plastic. Heat activates the adhesive and a and a vacuum pump extracts air. The old canvas support bonds with the new canvas support.
Reinforced with a new support, the original canvas can hold the paint and ground layer in a stable position for years to come.
